Belle Mitchell Dunbar was born May 3, 1872 and passed away May 19, 1948 at her home, after a short, unexpected illness at the age of 76 years and 16 days. Belle Dunbar was the youngest of ten children born to Elizabeth and James Mitchell. Her early life was spent in Soperville, Ill.

She was united in marriage to Loren Dunbar in the month of October, 1888. To this union were born ten children, five girls and five boys, three of which have preceded their mother in death, Jesse Barton, March 31, 1916; Magie Eakins, May 15, 1924, Edgar Dunbar Jan. 28, 1927.

The first nine years of her married life was spent near Galesburg, Ill. In 1897 the family moved to Iowa, living near Dallas Center for two years and have since lived near and in DeSoto. Mrs. Dunbar was a member of the Church of Christ and of the Women’s Society of Christian Service. She was a loving mother and a gracious friend to all who knew her. As we looked thru her Bible we found she had many books and verses marked. One of which was Psalm 23.

She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, Loren Dunbar of DeSoto; three daughters, Della Gilbert of Earlham; Hazel Hummel of Adel; Elsie Sly of Henderson, Ill; four sons, Bert Dunbar of DeSoto; Percy Dunbar of Grimes; Harry Dunbar of Wataga, Ill.; Tony Dunbar of Greenfield, Iowa; twenty-three grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; numerous other relatives and a host of friends and neighbors.

Transcriber’s note: Burial was made in the Earlham Cemetery. Name on gravestone is Isabelle.
