Page 3, Columns 1 & 2Roy Alfred Countryman, 61, of 2319 East 37th Street Court passed away July 6 due to a heart attack while he and Mrs. Countryman were visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Shaffer in Collegedale, a suburb of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Mr. Countryman, a resident of Des Moines for the past 38 years, was born in Dallas County near Redfield. He taught elementary school in Dallas County and at the Babbitt Elementary School near Des Moines. Later he taught classes in the Americanization school helping aliens to become American citizens.
During World War II he was a Civil Service employee.
Mr. Countryman was a member of the First Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Des Moines.
Survivors include his wife, the former Deva Jane Duffield, two sons, Calvin, an Iowa Highway Patrolman of Onawa, Donald, a city policeman of Iowa Falls; one daughter, Mary Del (Mrs. Gilbert Lee Beane) of Des Moines; two brothers, Joe of Adel and John Henry of West Des Moines; one sister, Christine (Mrs. Reuben Webb) of Adel; and twelve grandchildren.
