Funeral services were held Saturday at Fisher Funeral Home in Adel for Joseph D. Countryman, 74, who passed away June 18th at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, following a short illness. Burial was at the Earlham Cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Wayne of Redfield and Ward (Pete) of Adel; one sister, Christine Webb of Adel, one brother, Henry Countryman of West Des Moines, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Page 5, Column 5Joseph Donald Countryman, son of Delbert and Lydia Countryman, was born in West Cotty, Iowa on January 21, 1901. He died June 18, 1975 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines at the age of 74 years. He was educated in the country schools of Dallas County and on December 15, 1926 was united in marriage with Gunda Omit at Bimidji, Minnesota. To this union three children were born.
He lived all his life in the Adel-Earlham vicinity, with the exception of 11 years spent in Minnesota. He had worked in coal mines in Dallas County and laid field tile for many years. Since his retirement he’d operated a bait shop in Adel.
He is survived by his two sons, Wayne and Ward; by sister Christine Webb of Adel; by a brother, Henry Countryman of West Des Moines, by seven grandchildren and by three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, by one son, Harris, by five brothers, three of whom died in infancy, and by one sister.
