Wednesday, February 5, 2020Herbert Benge, 96, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2020, at Madison County Hospital.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Burial was at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.
Herbert Melvin Benge was born July 28, 1923, in Booneville, Iowa, to Mabel Allen and Harlan LeRoy Benge. He was a WWII Army veteran, and worked at Weston Dump Body in Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; sisters, Emily Coughlan and Ethel Berry; and brothers, Harry and Delbert Benge.
He is survived by his children, LeRoy (Sue) Benge, Lyla (Rick) Dunmire, and Steve Benge; 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; sisters, Ileen Long, Shirley Lewis, Gloria Stanley, Elenore Rhoads, Victoria Murra, and Mary Thornburg; and brother, William Benge.
Arrangements are being handled by Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel.
