He lived and attended school in Earlham, Oakland and Stuart and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, spending 36 months in the South Pacific.

On August 11, 1942 he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Lydon, and four children were born to this union.

Preceding him in death were his parents and an infant grandson. Surviving are his wife Mary Jane, and their four children: David R. McKee and wife, Karen, of Bellefontaine, Ohio; Diane Messinger and husband Howard, of Casey, Iowa; Debbie Blomquist and husband, Steve, of Kansas City, Missouri, and Dan McKee and wife, Sharon, of Norfolk, Nebraska, five grandchildren, two brothers, Thaine of Atascadero, California and Kenneth, of Des Moines, Iowa, other relatives and friends.

Due to the remodeling of the All Saints Church, the funeral mass was held at the United Methodist Church in Stuart, with Rev. Joseph Ryan officiating on Tuesday, July 5, 1977.

Organ music was provided by Mrs. Robert Griffin. Mass servers were Bob and Mark Tisl and Jeff Marnin. David Tisl served as reader and ushers were D. E. Belgard and Pat Marnin.
