Page 4, Column 1Funeral services were held Saturday, March 31, from Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson for John M. Travis, 74, of this community.
The Rev. George A. Krengel, pastor of Zion Lutheran church at Ogden, officiated. Ruth Trost was organist.
Casket bearers were Jim Giese, Estel Gumm, Wendell Henning, David Gumm, George Henning and Willard Hostetler. Interment was in Franklin Township Cemetery, Greene county.
Slininger Funeral Home of Jefferson was in charge of services.
John Martin Travis was born Dec. 5, 1909, at Peru, IA, the son of John and Lydia Wright Travis. He was reared on a farm in the Peru area and attended schools there.
John married Laura Addy in 1934. They were the parents of three children, Gayle, Elaine and Ray. The couple farmed in several locations in Dallas county.
On Jan. 4, 1969, John was united in marriage with Viola Wilson in Jefferson. The couple farmed in the Cooper community until John retired in 1976. They remained on the farm until October of 1982 when they moved to live in Jefferson.
Mr. Travis was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson.
He died March 28 in Jefferson. John was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Viola; two daughters, Gayle (Mrs. John) Travis Keene of Alexandria, VA and Elaine (Mrs. Richard) Lutz of Springfield, IL; a son, Ray Martin Travis of Peoria, IL; two step-sons, Les Wilson of Orrville, OH, and Jerrald of Mt. Jackson, Va; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two sisters, Eva (Mrs. Harley) Oglesbee of Lorimor and Goldie Seward of Winterset; and two brothers, Emery Travis of Dallas Center and Raymond Travis of Des Moines.
