Page 3, Column 2Services were held Tuesday, April 13, from Hastings Funeral Home in Perry for Laura Wilhelmina Travis, 87, of Perry, former Cooper area resident.
Pastor Laine Mathiason of Ames officiated. Judy Ohrt was musician. Interment was in Violet Hill Cemetery at Perry. Memorial contributions may be left at the funeral home.
Laura Wilhelmina Travis, daughter of Ray Franklin and Lena Clara Bernau Addy, was born Sept. 15, 1911, in Winterset. She died April 19, 1999, at Perry Manor in Perry.
Laura attended school in Winterset, graduating in 1931. She then attended the School of Nursing at Broadlawns Hospital in Des Moines for two years from 1931 to 1933.
Laura was united in marriage to John Travis on April 2, 1934. They became parents to three children: Ray, Elaine and Gayle. The family lived in Dallas Center from 1934 to 1938, DeSoto from 1938 until 1942, and then Woodward from 1942 to 1946.
In 1946 they bought a farm near Cooper. In 1975 Laura moved to Perry.
During the war years she volunteered from the Red Cross and taught first aid. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson.
Preceding Laura in death were her parents; two brothers, LeRoy Addy and Robert Addy; and one sister, RaeLena Mortensen.
Survivors include one son, Ray Travis and his wife Judy of Peoria, IL; two daughters, Elaine Lutz and her husband Dick of Champaign, IL, and Gayle Travis Keene and her husband Jack Keene of Severna Park, MD; seven grandchildren, Gregory Travis of Houston, TX, Jeffery Travis and his wife Martha of Frisco, TX, Lynn Travis Guarnieri and her husband Frank of St. Louis, MO, Julie Lutz of Danville, IL, Cathy Lutz of Dayton, OH, and Benjamin Keene and Becky Keene, both of Severna Park; four great grandchildren, Michele Judith Guarnieri, Adrian Rae Guarnieri, Avery Elizabeth Travis and Peyton Nichole Travis; one brother, Floyd Addy of Los Angeles, CA; one sister, Pauline Smith of Des Moines; and nieces and nephews.
