Sadie A. Walters

IDA GROVE, Iowa – Sadie Anna Walters, 86, of Ida Grove died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1993, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove with the Rev. Robert Lundberg officiating. Following the service, the body will be donated to the University of Iowa for medical research. Visitation will be after noon Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Walters was born Sept. 24, 1907, in Earlham, the daughter of John and Opha Huston. She attended country school until the family moved to Kennebec, S.D. She married Claude B. Walters. The couple farmed in the Kennebec area until the drought of the 1930s, when they moved to the Jefferson, S.D., area. They farmed there for 17 years and then settled in the Mapleton/Danbury area where they also farmed. He died in 1960 and she continued to farm until 1970, when she retired and moved to Ida Grove.

Survivors include two sons, Burton Claude Walters of Grants, Pass, Ore., and Donald M. Walters of Ida Grove; three daughters, Kathryn Walters of Los Angeles, Verna Cates of Apple Valley, Calif., and Helen Scharama of Forrest Park, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Merna Johnson of Presho, S.D.; two brothers, Clarance Huston of Vandalia, Ohio, and Roscoe Huston of Chamberlain, S.D.; and 11 nieces and nephew.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Raymond Huston; and a sister, Florence Page.
