DEATH OF MRS. NEWT LANE OCCURRED ON SUNDAY AT HER HOME

Mrs. Newt Lane, one of the pioneers of this community, passed away at her home Sunday evening, January 20th. Mrs. Lane had been in ill health for several years but was only confined to her bed about three weeks.

Josephine Huston was born in Lawrence county, Indiana, on May 2th 1848 and when only seven months old came overland with her parents in a covered wagon to Dallas county. She was married to Newton Lane on October 17, 1865. The last 52 years of her life was spent on the farm in Lee township. Mr. Lane died March 26, 1917. Two children are also deceased.

She is survived by three daughters Mrs. Alice Hiatt of Valley Junction, Mrs. Elva Allen of Booneville, Mrs. Anna Jamison of Redfield, one son Roy Lane of Booneville, two sisters Mrs. Martha Crawford of Winterset and Mrs. Jane Brittain of Wichita, Kansas and three brothers John Huston of Perry, Iowa, Fremont Huston of Winfield, Kansas and Taylor Huston of Valley Junction.

Mrs. Hiatt suffered a double bereavement as her husband who had not been very well passed away suddenly from shock after being told of Mrs. Lane’s death.
