Marilyn Jean Smith was born November 25, 1942, to Dale & Mary (Woods) Smith in Des Moines, Iowa. She died August 7, 2019, in Athens, Texas. Marilyn grew up on the family farm near Earlham, Iowa, and graduated from Earlham High School in 1961. Following graduation she attended the University of Iowa. On February 4, 1978, she married Paul Eaton. They were blessed with Joel, David, Jon, and Tommy. She had a wallpaper hanging business for many years and then returned to college to pursue her dream of being a nurse.

She graduated May, 1994, from Trinity Valley Community College with an Associate in Applied Science Nursing and then became a Registered Nurse. She worked at the Athens Hospital for many years, worked in home health care and then at a cardiologist office before retiring.

Marilyn was a member of Life Fellowship Church, Athens. She and Paul loved to travel all over the United States visiting family near and far. One of her favorite places to visit was the Rocky Mountain National Park to watch the wildlife.

She was such a caring woman, a wonderful nurse and was loved by all who met her.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Paul of Gun Barrel City, TX; son David of Bonham, TX; son Jon and wife, Tina, Scurry, TX; and son Tommy; her brother Jim and wife, Linda of Earlham, IA. Marilyn was gifted with 6 grandchildren: Devin, Bryce, Kezia, Celeste, Tiffany, Felicia, and 5 great grandchildren: Xander, Joseph, Emma Jane, Judah Bear, and Adeline.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and son, Joel.
