Susie Kathryn (Breeding) Martin, daughter of Walter Herschel Breeding and Grace S. (Carman) Breeding was born June 2, 1920, in St. Charles, Iowa, and passed from this life Sunday, April 7, 2019, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa, at 98 years of age.

Susie lived in the St. Charles area most of her life. For the past 14 months she was a resident of The Village in Indianola. She graduated from St. Charles High School in 1938. On October 22, 1940, she was united in marriage to Sam Martin Jr. at the St. Charles Methodist Church and five children blessed this union.

After high school, Susie attended business college in Des Moines. Upon completion of this program she lived in Des Moines and served as a statehouse clerk for Senator Ora E. Husted. A highlight of serving in this capacity was being chosen as an escort for Governor George A. Wilson during his inauguration.

Susie was a homemaker, a wonderful cook, a very involved mother and a farm wife. Susie worked off the farm as a part-time postal clerk and later was appointed to postmaster of the St. Charles Post Office retiring in July of 1987. Susie and Sam were King and Queen of St. Charles Old Settlers in 1998. She was a member of the St. Charles Parish and over a 75-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Susie belonged to the Rolling Wheels Camping Club, Buzzin Dozen Card Club, St. Charles Singles and enjoyed camping and attending the Iowa State Fair her entire life. Susie cherished spending time with her family and enjoyed 37 years of being a Winter Texan.

Susie leaves to cherish her memory; daughter, Kay Hayden & husband Carroll of St. Charles, IA, son, Sam Martin III & wife Jane of Indianola, IA, son, Herschel Martin & wife Donna of Truro, IA, son, Gary Martin & wife Debbie of Washington, IL, daughter, Jane Busby & husband Tim of New Virginia, IA, nine grandchildren, Clay Hayden & wife Becky of Olean, MO, Carla May & husband Don of Osceola, IA, Sam Martin & wife Rene'e of Colorado Springs, CO, Ranae Pontier & husband Jeff of St. Charles, IA, Erin Goering & husband John of St. Charles, IA, Grant Martin & wife Sandy of Arnold, MO, Ben Martin & wife Amie of Shorewood, WI, Calvin Busby & wife Jamie of Indianola, IA, Kala Jurno & husband Pedro of Johnston, IA. Susie was blessed to have 22 great grandchildren as well as many relatives and friends.

Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery.
