E. Nadine York, 83, of Galva, KS, died Thursday, June 26, 2014 at Newton Regional Medical Center. She was surrounded by family and friends in her final days, and as she peacefully slipped from their arms, she was welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Nadine was the oldest of eight children born to Marvin and Edith (Travis) Camp on November 8, 1930 in Clarke County, Iowa. On April 16, 1950, she married Arden York in Earlham, IA and began a wonderful adventure together throughout the Midwest as Arden made a career in ranch management. Wherever the Lord would take them on this journey, they would find and get involved in a local church.

Nadine was a lifetime learner, and a lover of books – so much so that even when her eyesight failed her, she still wanted to be surrounded by her books! It was her dream to attend college, but tuition costs were too high, so she worked at the Earlham (IA) Bank and saved money. But, she soon met a local bachelor who was church treasurer, and made a deposit each Monday! The rest is history – they married and raised a family (and saw to it they both attended college!) Yet, Nadine's dream was still unfulfilled!

Nadine was a Bible scholar extraordinaire and was known as a “walking concordance” by family members, as she knew the Bible inside and out! She loved teaching Sunday School classes and leading Bible studies. God truly does give us the desires of our hearts, and 35 years after graduating from high school, Nadine graduated from Barclay College (formerly Friends Bible College) of Haviland with a degree in Pastoral Counseling, and a GPA just shy of 4.0! She then took her love of teaching a step further, serving as pastor of a country church near Norwalk IA before retiring back to Kansas.

Her faith was strong, and her relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was genuine! Through adversities and challenges – and she had many – she would turn to Him in prayer for comfort and guidance. She diligently prayed for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as her younger siblings and others. Her faith, and those prayers, are responsible for many changed lives!

Nadine loved to sew and quilt! Her last quilt was just a few weeks ago for her three week old great grandson! Nadine also loved to travel, and has been to nearly all 50 states, England, and Mexico. She loved the brilliance of leaves changing color in the fall, and the sight of snow covered mountains. After Arden's death in 1997, Nadine moved to Fort Collins, CO and would often go for a ride up into the mountains. She loved snowfall, and really enjoyed this past winter, and our many snows!

A lifetime passion for Nadine was writing. Her devotionals and essays have been published in several denominational magazines. Recently, a selection of some of her work was put together in a booklet entitled “Heartfelt & Honest: A collection of original poetry, inspirational stories, & challenges from my heart to yours.”

From Nadine's own pen:
“God has been my companion. He has walked and talked with me. Sometimes He has spoken through His Word – the Bible. Other times, He has walked and talked with me through other human beings – through my husband, my family, or a minister, but more often through just another Christian....I hope sometimes I have been that 'other Christian' someone needed to show them God's love....To paraphrase a quotation by George Matheson (Streams in the Desert), 'I shall be satisfied if souls shall gather there when I am gone and say...she wrought no miracles, but she spake words about Christ, which led me to know Him for myself.'

Survivors include son, R. Glenn York (Conchita) of Fort Collins, CO; daughter, Elaine McAllister (Jim) of McPherson, KS; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren, Carina Saighman, Trey & Aysia, of Fort Collins, CO ; Shawna Herrera, Emma & Ty, of Galva, KS; and Travis McAllister (Ashley), Kenzley & Jesse, of McPherson, KS. Also surviving are three sisters Nellie Mitchell, Windsor, CO; Sharon (John) Sheumaker, Des Moines, IA; Reva (Mart) Batts, Longview, TX; and three brothers Jerry, Suntree, FL; David, Las Vegas, NV; Jack (Glenda), Glen Allen, MO. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arden, and a brother, Jim.

On Tuesday, July 1, a graveside service will be held at 10 am, Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Haviland, KS, followed by a celebration of her life at 4 pm, at New Hope Evangelical Church, McPherson, KS.
