Russell E. Weeks, 85, longtime Texas County resident, died July 6, 1992, in Morton County Hospital in Elkhart, KS.

Born May 18, 1907, in Winterset, Iowa, he was the son of Washington James and Elsie Ann Leonard Weeks. When he was three months old, the family moved by emigrant train to Elida, NM. In May 1916, the family moved by horse and covered wagons to Texas County purchasing a homestead relinquishment 25 miles northwest of Guymon in the Pleasant Plains community.

He attended Pleasant Plains school through the eighth grade, then attended high school at Goodwell.

On June 28, 1933, he married Emma Aidee Pope in Liberal, KS. They lived 22 miles northwest of Guymon, in the Hough community, and farmed until his retirement in the early 1980's.

He was active in Morning Star United Methodist Church and later in Straight Christian Church where he was a member, serving as deacon, chairman of the board and church treasurer for many years.

A 32nd Degree Mason, Mr. Weeks was a member of the Guymon Masonic Lodge AF & AM #335. As a member of the York Rite Masonry, he was a past High Priest of the Royal Arch, a past Illustrious Master of the Council and past Commander of the Commandry. He was also a member of the Guymon Chapter Order of Eastern Star #419.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Forrest and Clarence; two sisters, Marie Landers and Opal Johnson; and one granddaughter, Lacrisha Diane Stephens Earls.

Survivors include his wife, Emma of the home; one son, Dwight Russell Weeks of Edmond; one daughter, Phyllis Rae Stephens, and her husband Tom of rural Guymon; one grandson, Douglas Allen Weeks of Guymon; three granddaughters, Vicki Jo Taylor, and her husband, Mike, and son, Sterling Kyle of Goodwell, Tamra Kay Clawson and her husband, Andy, of Satanta, KS and Kimberly Ann Weeks of Guymon; a grandson in law, Raylon Earls of Guymon; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 9 at Morning Star United Methodist Church at Hough with Rev. Sam Tucker officiating. Masonic graveside rites will be held at the Lions Park, Elmhurst Cemetery at Guymon.
