Mrs. Mary Breheny passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 1943 in her home in Casey at the age of 85 years. She was one of the pioneer settlers in Iowa, her family having lived near Des Moines in the early 70s.

In 1877 she was married to Patrick Breheny to which union eleven children were born, eight of whom survive, namely Mrs. May Smith of Luther, Mrs. Margaret Lydon, Des Moines, Mrs. Agnes Miller, Adair, Don and John of Greenfield and James, Pat and Tom at home. Also a granddaughter, Mary Ward who has cared for her grandmother during her sickness. She also leaves 32 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren. Her husband, Patrick Breheny passed away April 4, 1942.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 8, in St. Joseph’s Catholic church, Casey, Rev. Fa. Sheehey officiating with Rev. Fa. Drew of Des Moines and Rev. Fa. O’Leary of Greenfield present.

Casket bearers were grandsons of the deceased vis. Joe and Virgil Smith, Francis and Paul Lydon, Gene and Raymond Miller. Interment was in St. Joseph’s cemetery.

Out of town friends attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. J. Smith, Luther, Iowa; Mrs. Margaret Lydon and family and Mrs. Floyd Miller and Mrs. John Vaughn of Des Moines; Mrs. Ruth Miller, Davenport; Mrs. Chas. Smith, Mrs. Paul Smalley, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Smith, Mr. and Mrs. V. Smith and Joe Smith of Boone.

Transcriber’s note: Maiden name from 1879 Madison County Marriage. The family was in Madison County 1880 census and the first 6 children were born in Madison County.
