Richard Kenneth Weldon, third child of Ken and Bea Weldon, was born on May 31, 1954 in Winterset, Iowa. He graduated in 1972 and lived in and around the Des Moines area. For a brief period, he lived in the Chicago suburbs, which worked out well for a lifelong Bears fan such as Rick was. Rick loved to tell the story of when his parents visited him around 1985, and his dad got to meet “the Fridge” Refrigerator Perry who lived down the street from him at the time.

Eventually, Rick found his calling in the IT field, helping others solve computer problems, and until his retirement in November 2017, was employed by Mediacom Communications for over 10 years.

Rick married Deanne on January 8, 2000 in West Des Moines and they made their home in Urbandale.

Rick had the gift of story-telling. He felt the need to always try to make a bad situation better, of making people laugh, of problem-solving through entertainment. Rick was a true friend in every sense of the word. Whoever coined the phrase “Laughter is the best medicine”, must have known Rick.

Rick loved all sports and sports radio, foosball and Farmville, dogs and the Chicago Cubs.

Rick was known for his booming voice and colorful language, he had an enormous heart and touched everyone he met in some way, shape or form.

Rick will be greatly missed by his dog and best friend, Chloe Louise Weldon; his loving wife, Deanne; son, Jason Richard Weldon of Plainfield, Illinois; sister Mickie (Larry) Utsler, of Winterset; step-children, Melanie Freeman and Adam Freeman; two grandchildren; mother-in-law, Delores Wagaman, all of Indianola and many extended family members and a host of friends.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Michael Weldon, father-in-law, R. C. Wagaman and niece, Stephanie Carter.

Memorials can be made to the Animal Lifeline of Iowa.
