Famed Stagecoach Driver’s Funeral Set

PHOENIX, Aug. 17, (AP)—Funeral services will be held here Monday for Elton E. (Red) Weller, 77, who years ago drove a stagecoach between Phoenix and Tucson.

He died Tuesday.

Elton E. Weller, 77, Former Stagecoach Driver, Succumbs

Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Sunday for Elton E. (Red) Weller, 77, one time driver of the Tucson-Phoenix stagecoach and a member of the Phoenix Police Department in 1934. Mr. Weller died Tuesday in a Phoenix hospital.

The service will be in the Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral rites with requiem high mass will be at 9 a. m. Monday in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.

A Phoenix resident 57 years and an Arizonan since before 1889, Mr. Weller also operated a pool hall and the “Colorado Chili Parlor.” He was active in the Arizona Pioneers Association, and was a past member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

Transcriber's note: Although not verified, the deceased is believed to have been born in Madison County as censuses show he was born in Iowa, the family was living in Madison County in the 1873 Madison County Census and they were in Kansas in 1880.
