Page 11, Column 7L. E. Kivett, 96, Dies In Florida
L. E. (Roy) Kivett, 96, retired Burlington railroad engineer and former resident of Creston, died at a hospital in Miami, Fla., last Saturday. He had been ill about one week.
Mr. Kivett had lived in Florida since 1936. He came to Creston in 1889 and was an engineer for the Burlington railroad for 45 years before retiring in 1934.
His body will be brought to Creston Thursday and will be taken to the Keating and Beemer funeral home. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 2 p. m. Friday with Rev. Francis Crown, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiating. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery. His body will lie in state at the funeral home until time of the services. The casket will not be opened after the services. His family will be at the funeral home form 7:30 to 8:30 p. m. Thursday.
L. E. Kivett was born near Macksburg, Jan. 22, 1864. He was married to Elizabeth Shawver, who preceded him in death Jan. 7, 1914.
Mr. Kivett is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Fred (Maude) Russell and Mrs. Anna K. Young, both of Miami, Fla., and Mrs. Floyd (June) Hershman of Kenosha, Wis.; five grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter in infancy and two sons, George in 1922 and Marvin in 1959.
Mr. Kivett was a deacon and choir director in the Baptist church here before moving to Florida. He had transferred membership to Calvary Baptist church at Miami and when he was 90 was still singing tenor in the church choir there.
He was a member of Crest City Masonic lodge here and was a charter member of the Creston lodge for Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
