Page 10, Column 5D. E. Griswold dies at 74
David E. Griswold, 74, a retired Burlington Railroad engineer, died at the Greater Community hospital here at 1 a.m. today. His home was at 1103 west Adair street.
Mr. Griswold had been ill for about two years and seriously ill for the past two days. He had lived in Creston most of his life.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Coen’s Home for Funerals, conducted by Gerry Chapman, pastor of the Seventh Day Adventist church, of which Mr. Griswold was a member. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery.
David Earl Griswold was born at Macksburg, Nov. 14, 1897. He was the son of William and Nora Mary Cozad Griswold. He was married in Maryville, Mo., Dec. 14, 1943 to Madeline Grimsley McCullough.
Mr. Griswold came to Creston in 1918 and lived here until about 1935, when he was transferred for several years. He returned to Creston in December, 1941, and had lived here since that time. He retired as a railroad locomotive engineer Nov. 1. 1966.
Mr. Griswold is survived by his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Ida May Lightner of Newton and Mrs. Marjorie Diers of Creston; a stepson, Claude McCullough of Montezuma; two stepdaughters, Carolyn Griswold of Marion and Barbara Parr of Ottumwa; 19 grandchildren; a brother, Frank Griswold of Greenfield; a half-brother, Oliver Priddy of Nevada, Iowa, and a half-sister, Freida Lewis of Massena.
Mr. Griswold was a member of the Masonic lodge.
