Page 1, Column 4M. E. Kivett Dies Here at 72
Marvin E. Kivett, 72, died at the Greater Community hospital here at 9:10 p. m. Saturday. Mr. Kivett, a Burlington railroad engineer for more than 50 years, had been ill for the past seven months.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist church here at 2 p. m. Tuesday. Rev. Francis A. Crown will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery. The I. O. O. F. will hold a service at 7:30 p. m. tonight at the Keating and Beemer funeral home. Masonic services will be held at the graveside. His body will lie in state at the funeral home until 1 p. m. Tuesday and will lie in state at the church before the services. The casket will not be opened after the services. His family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p. m. tonight.
Marvin E. Kivett was born on a farm in Madison county, near Macksburg, Oct. 13, 1886. He was the son of L. E. and Elizabeth Shawver Kivett. He had lived in Madison and Union counties all his life. He moved to Creston in 1907 and was employed by the Burlington railroad in engine service in November of that year. He became an engineer within a short time and received his 50-year service pin in 1957.
He was married here, March 22, 1911, to Goldie E. Brown.
He is survived by his widow; a son, Harold E. Kivett, of Creston; two daughters, Mrs. Lowell W. (Marjorie) Diers of Creston and Mrs. Hugh Lee (Ida Mae) Lightner, Jr., of Newton; eight grandchildren; his father who lives at Miami, Fla.; and three sisters, Mrs. Fred (Maude) Russell and Mrs. Anna K. Young, both of Miami, Fla., and Mrs. F. A. (June) Hershman of Kenosha, Wis.
Mr. Kivett was a member of the First Baptist church. He also was a member of the I. O. O. F. lodge, the Masonic lodge, the Rebekah lodge, the Order of the Eastern Star, the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and the Burlington Veterans.
