At an early hour Thursday morning J. J. Berry departed form this life after an illness of about five months.
J. J. Berry was born in Marion County, Indiana, October, 2nd, 1839, and died in Dexter, Kansas, June 8th, 1916. When a small boy he, with his parents, moved to Madison county, Iowa, where he grew to manhood and was married to Mary E. Johnson.
In the fall of 1897 he moved to Dexter, Kansas, where he spent the remainder of his life.
Mr. Berry is survived by a wife and eight children, seven of whom were with him during his last illness.
Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church June 9th, 1916, conducted by Rev. H. J. Strickler, and the remains were laid to rest in the Dexter cemetery.
In the passing away of Mr. Berry, Dexter loses an honorable citizen; one whose integrity will leave its imprint upon society for many years to come.
