Lois Jennings, daughter of Ai and Mary Jane Walker Fletcher, was born before the turn of the century in Jefferson township, Madison County, Iowa. She lived her entire life on farms in Madison and Dallas counties. She taught in rural schools in the Churchville area & Madison County before her marriage to Ralph Jennings, August 4, 1909. Their two children: LaVaun, Mrs. E. D. Earwood of Lohrville, and Fletcher Jennings of Van Meter, survive.

Mrs. Jennings had been a member of Jefferson United Brethren Church and was a member of Van Meter United Methodist Church at the time of her death. Through the years she had been active in W.S.C.S. and may community organizations, including Van Meter Women’s Club and Matrons Club. Se was a charter member of the Farm Bureau Home Study Club organized in 1917. In 1927 she helped to organize and was the first leader of the Van Meter Wide Awakes Girl’s 4-H Club, later becoming an Honorary member of the club.

In addition to her son and daughter, she is survived by daughter-in-law Arlene, son-in-law E. D. Earwood; 6 grandchildren, William, Bryan and Cate Jennings, Jack, Ralph and Lois Jane Earwood; 1 great granddaughter, Emily Elizabeth Earwood; and a sister, Edna Mangold of Hemet, California. Her husband Ralph, 3 sisters and a brother preceded her in death.

Mrs. Jennings died April 19, 1973 at her home south of Van Meter.

Funeral held April 21, 9:30 a.m. at the Fisher Funeral Home in Van Meter with Rev. C. G. Sparks officiating, burial at Van Meter Cemetery.

Diane Young was the pianist, and Harriet Tschantz and Dorothy Cushing assisted with flowers.

Casketbearers were Virgil Allen, James Cushing, Alfred Marquardt, Carl Radke, Kenny Stewart, and Duane Younker.
