B. Glassinger dies at 84

Mrs. Bonnie Marie Glassinger, 84, of Creston, died at the Greater Community hospital here at 2:55 p.m. Thursday. She had been ill for about 18 months.

Mrs. Glassinger had lived in Creston in 1922 and had been a practical nurse at Greater Community hospital before it moved to the new hospital building several years ago. She had been living at 124 Manor drive but formerly had lived for some years at 107 south Jarvis street.

Her funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints here. Elders David Blair and Richard Outhouse will conduct the service. Burial will be in the Moon cemetery at Macksburg. Her family will be at the Coen funeral home here from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Bonnie Marie Southworth was born at Macksburg, May 12, 1892. She was the daughter of Charles E. and Mamie Rowe Southworth. She was married at Macksburg, Feb. 16, 1910, to Gardner Crawford, who preceded her in death Oct. 1, 1953. She was married Creston on Aug. 27, 1961 to John (Jack) Glassinger, who died Oct. 24, 1970.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Sam (Beulah) Knauss of Mesa, Ariz.; two sons, Charles Crawford of Creston and Jim Crawford of Champlin, Minn.; a step daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Neola) Scott of rural Creston; 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Elizabeth) Gronert in 1970, and by a brother, Henry Southworth; a foster brother, Milton Garnett; and a stepson, Everett Glassinger.

She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day. Saints.

BONNIE MARIE GLASSINGER

Bonnie Marie Glassinger, born May 12, 1892 in Macksburg, Iowa the daughter of Charles E. and Mamie Rowe Southworth, died at 2:55 P.M. on December 9, 1976 at Greater community Hospital at the age of 84 years, 6 months and 27 days.

Her declining health of the past 18 months was aggravated by a fall resulting in a broken hip on November 28th.

She has been a resident of Creston for the past 54 years, most of that time on South Jarvis Street. In addition to her role as a wife and mother many remember Bonnie for her loving care as a practical nurse at the old hospital on 100 North Oak Street and in private homes at various times between 1940 and 1964.

In her early years Bonnie lived with her parents in Macksburg where she attended school and graduated from high school. She met Gardner D. Crawford in that community and they were married February 16, 1910. They farmed near Macksburg until Bonnie, with her husband and children moved to Montana. They homesteaded near Broadview, Montana until they returned to Iowa and Creston in 1922.

After her husband Gardner passed away October 1, 1953, she continued to live at the home on Jarvis Street, caring for her mother until Mrs. Southworth’s death.

On August 27, 1961 Bonnie married John (Jack) Glassinger. For a few years they maintained a home in Spaulding during the summer and another at South Jarvis in the winter months. After her husband Jack passed away October 24, 1970 Bonnie continued to live at her home on Jarvis Street until June of 1976. At that time she sold her house and moved to the Green Manor Apartments, her home until her death.

She is survived by one daughter Mrs. Sam (Beulah) Knauss of Mesa, Arizona, two sons Jim Crawford of Champlin, Minnesota and Charles Crawford of Creston, one step-daughter Mrs. Ralph (Neola) Scott of rural Creston, 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, 2 nephews and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Gardner Crawford and Jack Glassinger, one daughter Mrs. Frank (Elizabeth) Gronert, one step-son, Everett Glassinger, one brother Henry Southworth and a foster brother, Milton Garnett.

Funeral services were held at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Creston December 12, 1976. Elders David Blair and Dick Outhouse conducted the services. Pallbearers were Jim Argotsinger, Robert Jones, Marvin Coffey, Larry Jannings, Robert Hopkins and C. C. (Bud) Carl.

Burial was in Moon cemetery at Macksburg, Iowa.
