Gardner Crawford Dies Here at 68

Gardner Daniel Crawford, 68, died at the Greater Community hospital at 3:30 p. m. Thursday after a one-day illness. His home was at 107 south Jarvis street.

Funeral services will be held at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints here at 2 p. m. Sunday. Elder David Blair will conduct the service. Burial will be in the Moon cemetery at Macksburg. His body is at the Coens funeral home here and will be taken to the church to lie in state before the services. The casket will not be opened after the services.

Gardner Daniel Crawford was born at Savannah, Ill., July 20, 1885. He was the son of John W. and Grace McDonald Crawford. He was married at Macksburg, Feb. 16, 1910, to Bonnie M. Southworth, who survives him.

Also surviving are two sons, Jim W. Crawford of Champlin, Minn., and Charles G. Crawford of Des Moines; two daughters, Mrs. Beulah Knauss of Round Up. Mont., and Mrs. Elizabeth Gronert of Des Moines; a sister, Mary Crawford; and three brothers, Frank, Earl and John Crawford.

Mr. Crawford came to Creston in 1922. He had been a farmer, railroad employe and clerk before his retirement in December 1922.

Services Held for Gardner Crawford

Funeral services for Gardner Daniel Crawford were held Sunday at 2:00 p. m. at The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Elder David Blair officiating. Burial was in Moon cemetery at Macksburg. The pallbearers were Sherman Phipps, William Bendorf, Dick Outhouse, Carroll Carl, Walton Herzberg and Dolliver Everling.

GARDNER DANIEL CRAWFORD

Gardner Daniel Crawford, born July 20, 1885 at Savannah, Ill., the first son of John and Grace Crawford, passed away at Greater Community hospital, Oct. 1, 1953 at the age of 68 years, 2 months and 11 days.

In his early childhood the family lived at Miles and Emerson, Iowa, later moving to a farm near Macksburg, Iowa where he farmed with his father.

In 1910 he was united in marriage with Bonnie M. Southworth. To this union four children were born.

Their first married years were spent in farming in Iowa and Montana. In 1922 they moved to Creston where he worked for the railroad for about ten years. Clerking in Creston composed his major occupation until his retirement in 1952.

In his early youth he joined the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of which he has been a faithful member. He lived by his belief that “if you can’t speak well of a person don’t say anything at all.”

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie M. Crawford; his children, Beulah B. Knauss of Round Up, Mont., James W. Crawford of Champlin, Minn., Elizabeth Gronert and Charles G. Crawford both of Des Moines, Iowa, and ten grandchildren. Also surviving are his one sister, Mary J. Crawford of Emerson, Iowa, and three brothers, Frank of Spokane, Wash., Earl of Emerson, Iowa, and John of Billings, Mont. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Grace Ivie and Maud Higdon.

Funeral services were held at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Creston, Oct. 4, 1953. Elder David Blair conducted the services. Pallbearers were Walton Herzberg, William Bendorf, Dick Outhouse, Dolliver Everling, Sherman Phipps, Carroll Carl. Burial was in Moon cemetery at Macksburg, Iowa.
