Page 12, Column 5LUZERNE—Funeral services for John L. Beem, 82, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Driscoll chapel in Belle Plaine. Mr. Beem died at his home in Luzerne Monday after a two month illness.
He was born in Madison county, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michial Beem, and was married to Susan Shriver Nov. 27, 1889, in Harrison county. They lived at Council Bluffs, coming to Luzerne 28 years ago. He served as the first rural free delivery carrier on the Luzerne route 20 years, retiring in 1920.
He is survived by the wife, two sons and one daughter, John Beem of Belle Plaine, George Beem of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Ethel Diehl of Cedar Rapids.

Funeral services for John L. Beem, 82, were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Peffers Funeral Home at Belle Plaine in charge of the Rev. Park Miller of Bethany Church. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery in this city.
Mr. Beem died at his home in Luzerne Monday after a two months illness due to infirmities of old age and pneumonia.
He was born in Indiana, May 24, 1857, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Beem. He came to Madison county when a small boy.
He was married to Susan Shriver Nov. 27, 1889 in Harrison county. They lived at Council Bluffs, coming to Luzerne 28 years ago. He served as the first rural delivery carrier on the Luzerne route twenty years retiring in 1920.
He is survived by the widow and two sons and one daughter, John Beem of Belle Plaine, George Beem of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Ethel Diehl of Cedar Rapids and seven grandchildren.
________________________Transcriber's notes: Transcribed as published, the first name of deceased's father should be "Michael". Of the two versions of his birthplace, the version having him born in Madison County, Iowa is correct. Per census records, the Michael Beem family arrived in Madison County in about 1855 and lived there continuously until about 1878. The deceased is shown to be born in Iowa in all of his census records and on his death certificate.
