Page 3, Column 4Rites Held for Leo Work at Swea City
Swea Eagle: Leo E. Work, former Swea City man, died Sunday, Feb. 19, at Newton at the Skiff Memorial Hospital. He had been ailing for the past few months.
Services were held at the United Methodist Church at Swea City for family and friends here.
He lived in the Swea City area from the age of 11 until he moved to Newton in 1946, where he worked at the Automatic Washing Machine Company, then construction work and recently at the Holiday Inn.
He was born to Frederick and Rachel Catherine Isenburger Work, Jan. 26, 1900, in Madison County, Iowa. He was married to Anna E. Ryzak on Feb. 15, 1933 at Fairmont, Minn., and farmed in this area.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Rachel Catherine, two brothers, Harley and Herbert, and two sisters, Ethel Funderburk and Nellie Craig.
Survivors include his wife, Anna; a son Frederick Lee of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Mrs. Darwin (Cathleen) Soringer of Newton; a grandson, Daniel Lee Springer of Newton, and two granddaughters, Deborah Gail Springer of Newton and Lora Work Hanoi of Houston, Tex.
Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. William (Bessie) Koons of Fairmont, Minn., Mrs. Clarence (Lida) Saxton of Edinburg, Texas, and Mrs. Rex (Ruby) Funderburk of McAllen, Texas.
Dr. Summerbell officiated at the funeral services at Swea City and burial was in Harrison Township Cemetery.
