DEATH OF GEO. SMITH.

Henry Smith received the following telegram Thursday, July 13th, dated at San Francisco, this:

San Francisco, California, July 12th. Henry Smith, Peru, Geo. Died noon to-day. Buried here with navy boys Friday. Mary Smith.

Henry Smith and family lived in Peru for a number of years, a part of the time near neighbors of the editor’s family, and George grew almost to manhood here, a bright, capable boy, who was full of boyish fun and mischief, a general favorite with his boy friends and liked by all. About nine years ago he joined the navy and was on the battle ship Kentucky in the naval trip around the world. About three years ago he was married to Miss Minetta Connet in Des Moines, who with a son of two years survive him.

George Smith was born July 4th, 1889, and died July 12th, 1916, aged 27 years and 8 days.

He leaves to mourn his death, besides the wife and son, his father and mother, one brother, Frank, who was enroute from Honolulu to San Francisco when his brother passed away; two sisters, Fannie and Marie, and a large circle of friends. He will be buried to-day, Friday, July 14th, with naval honors at the San Francisco Naval Cemetery. The sympathy and love of all Peru’s citizens goes out to the bereaved wife, parents, and brother and sisters.
