Jane Rae Martens

Jane Rae Martens, 87, of Winterset passed away on April 19, 2018 at Kavanagh House on 56h in Des Moines. Funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 25, at New Bridge Church in Winterset with Rev. Dr. John Shaull officating. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 24, at New Bridge Church from 2 to 8 PM with family greeting friends from 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Jane was born June 12, 1930 in Fairbury, Nebraska to Raymond and Lora Jane Dabner. She graduated from Winterset High School in 1948. In 1952, she married Charles Martens and they made their home on a farm northeast of Winterset. She worked for a dentist when in school, sold tickets at the Iowa theatre in Winterset, sang at weddings, funerals and in the church choir, but her main job was being a house wife and mother. After Charles death, she began working at Collins Funeral home up until recently when her health would not allow her to.

She was involved in the following clubs – PEO-Chapter AG, American Legion, Pythians, Eastern Star, Lions Club, and various card clubs. She enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings, ISU Cyclone games (football and basketball), eating out and playing cards with her friends, going to concerts or plays, taking care of any animal that she would find, and supporting and being with her family.

Jane is survived by her children: Julie (Vern) King of Altoona, Sally (Len) Belas of Des Moines and Scott of Waukee; grandchildren, Katie King, Brady and Ellie Martens; sister, Joan (Fred) Kuntz of Des Moines; sister-in-law, Marilyn Dabner; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles; parents Raymond and Lora Jane Dabner; brother Jack Dabner; and various other family members.

The family would like to extend a thank you to Dr. Joe Kimball, Dr. Jan Franko and Dr. Robert Deming for their help to extend Jane’s life for the last 9 years and to the staff at Hospice of Central Iowa and especially Kavanagh House for the compassionate care of Jane during her last months on earth.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa – Kavanagh House in memory of Jane Martens. Online condolences may be left at www.caldwellparrish.com . Caldwell-Parrish Funeral Home - Collins Chapel in Winterset is in charge of arrangements.
