OBITUARY OF VERNON MONROE.

A Telegram was received last week by the Fenimore’s here from Mrs. Mollie Fenimore of Carthage, Mo., saying that her son Vernon Monroe died Tuesday. Vernon came to Peru with his mother when a small boy, and grew to young manhood here, graduated from our Peru High School. He was popular with his school mates and all who knew him, of a genial happy disposition. He was the life of every party of young people with whom he associated. He was greatly missed when he left Peru. Vernon has had a long and painful illness extending over several years, having been afflicted with that dread consumption. The sympathy of Mrs. Fenimore’s many friends here goes out to her in her bereavement. The funeral was at Carthage, Missouri. The Carthage paper says:

Vernon L. Monroe, 27, years old died at 11:30 o’clock last night at the home of his mother, Mrs. Mary Fenimore, in Cassil Place. Death was caused by tuberculosis. He had been in poor health for several years and has been bedfast for three years.

The mother, a half brother, and a half sister are the survivors. Eugene and Miss Marie Fenimore are the half-brother and half-sister. The family moved to Carthage four years ago from Diamond. They came to this State from Iowa. Mr. Monroe was born in Decatur county, Iowa, July 15, 1891.

The funeral was conducted from the Fenimore home, 629 Cassil Place Thursday at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. D. W. Moore, of Webb City. Burial was in Park Cemetery.
