Isabel Nelson

Isabel Murl (Blee) Nelson, daughter of Isaac and Myra (Hilker) Blee, was born April 4, 1924 in Santiago, Iowa (a village east of Bondurant, Iowa), and passed away at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola on April 12, 2018 at the age of ninety-four years.

Early in life, she attended Barrett country school in Polk County, and graduated from Mitchellville High School in 1942. She attended Simpson College and Drake University, where she received her degree in Education. She taught in a rural school in Polk County, and later in the Winterset School System for nearly 10 years.

She was a member of the Santiago Methodist Church, Jolly Fu of the Truro United Church of Christ, where she attended; and Isabel was a 71-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star at Osceola.

She spent many happy hours reading, working crossword puzzles, making quilts, and traveling. In the later years she sewed many rags for rugs.

On June 1st, 1952, Isabel was married to Wayne Bert Nelson. Three sons were born to this union, David, Paul and James.

Isabel was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Mary Jane Blee and brother, Robert Blee; sister-in-law, Dorothy Blee and nephew, John Blee; and granddaughter, Laura Nelson.

She is survived by her sons, David and wife Marie of Des Moines, Paul of Truro, and James and wife Judy of Mitchellville; three grandchildren, Lucas and wife LeeAnn of Bondurant, Andrea Nelson of Mitchellville, and a step-granddaughter, Meredith Meister of Des Moines; great-grandchildren, Lillian, Lexi and Zoe; and sisters-in-law, Betty Ann Green and Louise Nelson of Truro; a niece in Florida, and nephews, all of Truro.

She will be sadly missed by her family and many wonderful friends.

Memorials directed to the Santiago United Methodist Church or Truro congregational United Church of Christ.

Cemetery: Field Cemetery, Clark County, IA.
