Carl Nehring

Carl Christopher Nehring, son of Ludwig August Nehring and Rose Lima (Wiedmann) Nehring was born April 22, 1930 in Des Moines, Iowa and passed from this life Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center at 87 years of age.

Carl received his education in St. Marys High School graduating in 1948. Carl served his country with the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1952. He was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Tobin on November 28, 1959 at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys and two children, Chris and Stephen blessed this union.

Carl worked several years in heavy construction where he was involved in the construction of Interstate 35 from Bevington to Osceola and Interstate 80 from Stuart to Casey. Carl enjoyed farming and he and Pat purchased their first farm in 1962. He also worked for Iowa Power and Light until his retirement in 1992.

He was a sixty-four year member of Lions Club in St. Charles where he received recognition as Man of the Year. He was also a member of the Madison County Cattleman's Association; Iowa Cattlemans Association; Knights of Columbus and a lifetime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Carl's greatest enjoyment came from farming and his cattle. Carl and Pat have enjoyed watching basketball and baseball over the years however not always agreeing on which games to watch. He spent a great amount of time cooking for the Lions Club and the Cattlemans Associations. In earlier years, Carl and Pat enjoyed square dancing and Carl began calling Old Fashioned Square Dancing traveling to many smaller communities in Iowa. He also enjoyed going to auctions and sales with son Chris.

Those relatives who preceded Carl in death were his father, Ludwig August Nehring; mother, Rose Lima Nehring; sister, Isabel Louise Nehring; brother, Richard (Edith) Nehring; nephew, Larry Nehring; mother and father-in-law, Bill and Evelyn Tobin; sister-in-law, Darlene (Dean) Graham; brother-in-law, Jack Tobin.

Carl leaves to cherish his memory; wife, Pat Nehring of Saint Charles, IA, sons, Chris (Cindy) Nehring of St. Charles, IA., Stephen Nehring (the late William Gilgour) of Phoenix, AZ; nephew, Mike (Betty) Nehring of Des Moines, IA; sister-in-law, Dixie Palmer-Wood of OK; many nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and many friends.

Memorials may be directed to the family for a donation to the American Heart Association
