Funeral services for Rolla Estell, World War I veteran, were conducted last week end in the Bufkin Funeral home in Stuart, Ia. Death came to Mr. Estell at his own hand at his farm home as a result of a long period of illness. Interment was in the Oak Grove cemetery and the following obituary was read during the service.

Rolla Estell, son of Amanda and Alfred W. Estell, was born near Casey, Iowa May 23, 1888, and departed this life at his home in Jackson township, Guthrie county September 1, 1948 at the age of 60 years, 3 months and 9 days.

He moved to Guthrie county in 1933, his earlier life being spent in Adair and Madison county.

He was inducted into the army in the First World War April 28, 1918, at Winterset, Ia., and was in the 359th Infantry participating in the AEF St. Mihiel and the Meuse Argonne and was discharged the 11th of April, 1919.

He was one of eleven children, preceded in death by his father, mother and one brother, Theora of Bismark, N. Dak.

He is survived by six brothers and three sisters: John of Greenfield, Mrs. Francis Nyhart of Butte, Mont., Burt of Orient, Mrs. Roy Gray of Greenfield, Ellis and Percy of Winterset, Mrs. Bessie DeVault of Stuart, Frank of Osceola, Paul of Anaconda, Mont., and a number of nephews and nieces.

All of his life was spent in farming except when in the army, the last 20 years being spent on a farm with his sister, Bessie.
