Verlan Maxine Page, daughter of Samuel Roy and Mary Elizabeth Miller McVey was born Dec. 19, 1917, in Peru and died Sept. 28, 2005, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. She was 87.

On Nov. 9, 1933, she married Pearl James “Pug” Page at Chariton and they became the parents of two children, Evelyn and Robert.

Mrs. Page was a homemaker and lived her entire life in Clarke County. She was a Past Noble Grand of the Osceola Rebekah Lodge No. 57 and a longtime member of the Osceola Saddle Club. She enjoyed cooking, studying recipes, Woodburn jam sessions, dancing, sewing in past years and socializing. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1985; son Robert in 1965; two brothers, Gail McVey and John W. “Bill” Blackburn; and two sisters, Florence Kent and Edna Poil.

She is survived by a daughter, Evelyn Kent and husband Charles of Osceola; five grandchildren, Patricia Audlehelm, Jack Page and wife Roxie, all of Des Moines, Gregory Kent and wife Jean of Osceola, Darcia Lange and husband Bruce of Promise City, and Jay Kent and wife Connie of Osceola; 13 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; a brother, Richard Blackburn and wife Cora of Osceola; sisters-in-law, Juanita Stahlman of Grand River and Lee Page of Lewiston, Idaho; nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Oct. 1 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola for Mrs. Page with Pastor Judy Miller officiating. Organist Virginia Reynolds accompanied soloist Lance Lange as he sang “In the Garden” and “A Closer Walk With Thee”.

Casket bearers were Greg Kent, Jay Kent, Jack Page, Bruce Lange, Chip Coe and Cody Kent. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery at Osceola.
