Elmer Vern Brown, 66, of Osceola died Saturday, October 13 at the VA Hospital in Des Moines. Services were held Wednesday, October 17 from the Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with the Rev. Clifford Haider officiating at the 2 p.m. rites. Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery.
Elmer Vern Brown was born Mach 23, 1918 in Macksburg, Madison County to Ira Elmer Brown and Margaret Marie Campbell Brown. He attended schools in Clarke County and married Viola Grace Howe on January 25, 1947 in Troy, Kansas. He worked in the area as a farmer and was a member of the National Riflemen Association, the American Legion and the Methodist Church.
Surviving relatives include a step-daughter Deloris Ansley and husband, Morris of Murray, a step-son, Ron Watkins and wife, Harriet of Osceola; a step-daughter, Marcella Green of Osceola, 13 grandchildren, six great grandchildren; three brothers, Charles Brown of Osceola, Raymond Brown of Macksburg and Jessie Brown of Portland, Oregon; and one sister, Clara Lewis of Hudson, South Dakota.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Robert Eugene Brown and Ira Clair Brown and one sister, Mabel Marie.
