Cecil Burgus Dies Dec. 8

Cecil Merrill Burgus, 231 East Jefferson, Osceola, died at the Clarke County Public Hospital on Saturday, December 8, 1979. Services will be held from the United Methodist Church in Osceola on Wednesday, December 12, with the Rev. Richard Pfaltzgraff of Creston officiating at the 1:30 p.m. rites. Interment will be in the Murray Cemetery.

Cecil Merrill Burgus was born December 8, 1902, in Madison County, Iowa, son of Charles Burgus and Grace Turner Burgus. He attended schools in Madison County and on June 5, 1929, he was married to Bertha Smith in Jefferson, Iowa. Two children were born to this union.

He farmed in the Murray area until 1944 when he became a fireman and engineer with the Burlington Northern Railroad. He retired from that position in January of 1971. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Osceola.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha Burgus of Osceola, daughter, Cecilia McGee and husband, James of Albuquerque, New Mexico; son, Rodger Burgus and wife, Jackie of Tulsa, Oklahoma, grandchildren, David Burke, Catherine Jane McGee, Mark McGee; Lynn Burgus Broadhead and husband, Louis; Lori Burgus and Jeffrey Burgus. Foster grandchild, Wendy Reagan Pohlman and husband, Carl, two brothers, Jess and Donald Burgus, both of Osceola, and four sisters, Eva Dovenspike of Chariton; Amye Ramsey of Osceola, Doris Forbes of Woodburn, Oregon; and Mary Farr of Murray.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Carl and Ralph and one sister, Ruby Henderson.
