Sylvia M. Gracey, daughter of George and Alice Gray Gracey was born February 27, 1896 in Madison County, and died February 20, 1984 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She would have observed her 88th birthday February 27.

Sylvia was one of four daughters and five sons. Her education was obtained in Madison and Clarke County schools. Following her entry in the business world she was an employee of the Internal Revenue Service in Des Moines. Following her retirement from the Revenue Service she was employed in the executive offices of the PEO in Des Moines.

She moved to Osceola in March, 1980. Soon after this she transferred her membership to the First Christian Church in Osceola and attended as her health permitted. She was a 50 year member of the Chapter of the PEO and was active in the sisterhood while living in Des Moines.

Sylvia loved people and was happiest when surrounded by family or friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and five brothers.

She is survived locally by a nephew and wife, Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Mumper, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Leonard L. Gracey; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 23 at 11 a.m. at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola. Rev. Neville Clayton of Osceola officiated. Burial was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Osceola.
