July 27, 1951 - February 2, 2018Dennis Hochstetler, 66, of Dallas Center died on Friday, February 2, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.
A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 6, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, where family will be present to receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 7, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset with a burial to follow in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family and/or the Fire Departments of Dallas Center, Adel, Bouton, Grimes/ Johnston, Minburn, Van Meter, Waukee, or Redfield.
Dennis Bruce Hochstetler, son of Francis and Dorothy (Morrissey) Hochstetler, was born July 27, 1951, in Winterset, Iowa. He attended schools in Earlham and graduated from Earlham High in 1969. He was active in FFA and 4-H during his high school years and showed livestock. Dennis met his wife Paulette Callahan during high school and the couple was united marriage on May 23, 1970, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset. To this union they were blessed with a son, Greggory.
Dennis was active in the Army National Guard from 1971 to 1977. He and Paulette farmed and made their home in Madison County. He enjoyed tending to his livestock, working his land, maintaining his equipment and nurturing young animals of all types. He was a true steward of the land. Dennis always had a garden and Paulette would can his produce. He was a past member of the Madison County Extension Council. Dennis took great joy tinkering in his garage, woodworking and making custom equipment. He spent his free time camping, fishing with friends and Aunt Anna, attending potlucks and watching Gomer Pyle. His greatest treasures were his grandsons, Jacob, Gavin and Sean. Above all else, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who cherished the time spent with the ones he loved.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 47 years, Paulette Hochstetler of Dallas Center; son, Greggory (Mary) Hochstetler of Grimes; three grandsons, Jacob, Gavin and Sean Hochstetler; sister, Ann (Kenneth) McKibben of Riverside; brothers, Clair (Patricia) Hochstetler of Dexter, Stephen (Mayumi) Hochstetler of Honolulu, HI; nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Dorothy, and a nephew, Michael Bayliss.
