Funeral services were held at the Watts funeral home Tuesday at 2:00 o’clock for William A. Dick, pioneer resident of Murray vicinity. Rev. Lester Strubhar, pastor of the Christian church officiated. Several beautiful sons were sung by the male quartet. Interment was made in the Union cemetery under the direction of the Watts mortuary.
William A. Dick, son of John P. and Sarah E. Dick, was born in Henry county, Iowa, Oct. 9, 1860 and died at his home near Murray, Jan. 12, 1936, at the age of 75 years, three months and three days. When a small boy he moved with his parents to Madison county where he grew to manhood.
Dec. 27, 1882 he was united in marriage to Cynthia Ellen White. To this union five children were born: Charles, Alva, Delbert, Ray and one infant son.
Mr. Dick united with the Methodist Protestant church in early manhood and proclaimed this faith to the end. He leaves to mourn his loss one son, Charles, nine grandchildren, two brothers and four sisters besides a number of other relatives and friends. His wife and four sons having preceded him in death.
Mr. Dick spent most of his life in Madison and Clarke counties. He had the respect and friendship of all whom he came in contact. He was a loving husband and a kind father, and lived an exemplary Christian life, always upholding the cause of just and right.
Out of town relatives attending the funeral services were: Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Sidener of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Hamilton; Mr. and Mrs. Clair E. Hamilton; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dick and Miles and Stanley; Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Jessup of Winterset; John Dick of Stuart; Mrs. H. M. Doolittle of Omaha; Leo Dick of St. Charles; Mr. and Mrs. D. A. White of Lorimor; Mrs. Geo. Fouche and son and Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Banker, of Osceola.
