George W., son of Joseph and Rachel Woods, was born in Jefferson Co., Ind., Mar. 4, 1860; died at the home of his brother Hiram, near Murray, Jan. 5, 1925, at the age of 64 years, 10 months and 1 day. He came to Madison county, Iowa in 1866 where he spent a greater part of his life, coming to Clarke Co., about four years ago, where he has since resided.

He was married to Clara Duncan, May 1, 1884. To this union was born 3 children, Cal W., of Murray, Raymond C., of Grand River, and Orville deceased. The wife passed away on Sept. 19, 1900, leaving him to care for the boys alone. Besides the two sons, he leaves to mourn his going one brother, Hiram Woods, of Murray, one sister, Mrs. Mary Morgan of Peru; eleven grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Two sisters and six brothers preceded him in death.

On Dec. 26, 1925 he fell on the ice and received a fractured hip, from which he seemed to be recovering when he was suddenly taken to the great Beyond.

He was a kind, loving father and a friend to all. Funeral services were conducted at 11 o’clock, Wednesday, Jan. 7th, by Rev. L. La Gans and the Masonic Order of Peru, at the Union church, where he was laid to rest beside his wife.
