Obituaries

NEW HAMPTON—Zillah Mae Hibbs, 85, died Sunday, Jan. 18 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN of natural causes.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22 at the Congregational United Church of Christ in New Hampton with Rev. Carol Krause officiating. Jerry Bailey will be the organist and will accompany Kenneth Lester singing “In the Garden” and “Have Thine Own Way, Lord” and also the congregation singing “How Great Thou Art.”

Burial will be in the New Hampton Cemetery with Eric Whitnable, Mark Ritchmond, Craig Willadsen, Dean Randall, Michael Hibbs and Ashby Hibbs serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Bruce, Jon, Kevin and Brad Willadsen, Andrew, Jonathan, Blake, Jason and Nolan Hibbs.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at the Conway Funeral Home in New Hampton where there will be a 7 p.m. Scripture Service and also an hour prior to services at the church.

Zillah Mae Ragan was born Dec. 31, 1912 in Winterset, daughter of Dr. Lawrence E. and Amy Belle (Cline) Ragan. Zillah Mae graduated from Mitchellville High School in 1930. She then went to work for the Mitchellville Telephone Company as an operator until she married Kenneth E. Hibbs on May 14, 1933 in Moorhead, MN. After their marriage the couple moved to New Hampton. Zillah Mae worked at the New Hampton Swimming Pool for 30 years. Her husband Kenneth died on Dec. 15, 1961.

After raising her children, Zillah Mae moved to Ames where she was a housemother at a fraternity at Iowa State University. Then she went to work for the Des Moines YMCA as a Residence Director from which she retired. After retiring she moved back to New Hampton, where she resided until the time of her death.

Zillah Mae was an active member of the Council on Aging, Congregational Church of Christ, she was president of Women’s Fellowship, and a 66 year member of the Golden Palace Rebekahs #578.

Survivors include four daughters, Marilyn Randall and her husband, Maurice, Phyllis Willadsen and her husband, Peter, all of New Hampton, Donna Ritchmond and her husband, Eugene, McGregor, TX,, Marshal Witnable and her husband, Gerald, Medina, OH; three sons, Lawrence E. and his wife, Doris, Charles City, Karl K., Whitewater, WI, Paul V. and his wife, Patti, LaCrosse, WI; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; three sisters, Mabel Nelson and Eleanor Rowley and her husband, Dr. Charles, all of Des Moines, Florence Christine Hammel and her husband, Robert, McGregor.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Kenneth; a sister, Edith Brodersen; and four brothers, Willard Ragan, G. Lawrence Ragan, Everett Ragan and Robert Ragan, both in infancy.
