DEATH OF JAMES A. PORTER

After months of intense suffering, Mr. Porter past to the great beyond Tuesday morning. Mr. Porter—or Jim—as he was familiarly called by almost every one, has lived in Peru a long number of years. He was born in Madison county. He was a man whose friends were numbered by those who knew him. He will be greatly missed by all.

James Alexander Porter was born in Madison County, Iowa, Oct. 1st, 1856, and died at his home in Peru, Iowa, June 17th, 1919, the age of 62 years, eight months and 16 days.

He was married to Frances Mothorn May 17th, 1883. To this union were born five children; four of which survive him. They are Walter William of Des Moines, Alferd Mitchell of Peru, John Thomas, who is now with the Expeditionary forces in France, Mrs. Harry Jones, of Commerce, Iowa, and one foster daughter, Mrs. John Glasgow of Des Moines. He leaves to mourn a wife, four children and one grandson, eight brothers, one sister and a host of other friends and relatives. His illness was a lasting one, but he bore his suffering patiently until the end.

East Peru

Jim Porter who has been ill for some time passed away at his home early Tuesday morning. Mr. Porter has lived in and near Peru all his life and is well known.

The funeral was held at the home Wednesday conducted by Rev. Peer with interment in Peru cemetery.

NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS – Peru

After several months failing health J..Porter passed away on Tuesday morning.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, burial at the Peru cemetery.
