Frank Raymond Palmer, son of Gorham Palmer Jr. and Katherine Evans Palmer was born May 11, 1936, in Madison County and passed from this life Nov. 17, 2008, at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines, at 72 years of age.

Frank served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957. He was united in marriage to Arletta Faye Hopkins on Jan. 10, 1959, at Leon, and two sons blessed this union. Frank and Arletta had lived in Murray for the past 12 years, living in Grimes and Des Moines before that.

Frank was a GSA employee in maintenance and worked in the Federal Building in Des Moines for 20 years. He was a member of William-Lochrie Post #405 American Legion in Murray; Boy Scouts of America; and National Little League Association. Frank was a former Scout Master and a former coach.

Frank was an avid horseman, enjoyed team horses and giving carriage rides. He enjoyed golfing in the past and loved to play musical instruments – guitars, banjos, etc. He was a ‘hands on’ person who enjoyed welding and repairing things for people in Murray.

Those relatives who preceded Frank in death were his parents; sister, Betty Young; brother, John Palmer; brothers-in-law, James Austin, Clarence Young, Dean Hutcheson; sisters-in-law, Barbara Palmer, Paula Palmer, Pat Palmer; nephew, Keith Palmer; and niece Sheryl Hutcheson.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Arletta Palmer of Murray; sons, Rocky Palmer (Carey) of St. Charles and Roger Palmer of Clermont, Fla.; grandchildren, Rachel Palmer of Des Moines, Richard Palmer of Des Moines, Corey Palmer of Denver, Colo., Angel Palmer of Denver, Colo.; brothers, Kenneth Palmer of Mercer, Mo. and Carl Eugene Palmer (Donna) of Carrizozo, N. M.; sister, Nora Austin of Des Moines; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola on Nov. 21, 2008, with Larry Owens officiating. Interment followed in the Murray Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to the family for a fitting memorial to be decided at a later date.
