Page 5, Columns 4 & 5C. A. Marler passed away on June 18, 1955 at the advanced age of 89 years. He was born April 2, 1866, in Madison County, Iowa, the youngest of a family of seven children born to Joseph A. and Mary E. Marler, all having preceded him in death.
He had lived in Murray and adjoining territory all his life except three years in LaHarpe, Illinois, from 1933 to 1936. Then he and Mrs. Marler came to Osceola and resided there until his death.
In early years he, with the Marler family were members and workers in the Washington Township Methodist Church. He and his parents knew the rigors and rugged life of the early pioneers, who are passing away so rapidly, marking the fleeting years and the many changes that have taken place in our economics and methods of living.
He lived in Murray 35 years and was engaged in the Real Estate business, always honest and reliable, and formed many friendships which have lasted through the years. Ill health caused retirement many years ago, but he retained an active interest in all that was good and uplifting. He was a member of Surprise Lodge No. 396, A.F. & A.M. of Murray and on June 14, 1952 was presented with a certificate of fifty years of membership.
On August 2, 1933 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Joseph B. Brand of LaHarpe, Illinois who survives. He also leaves one nephew, Albert S. Marler of Osceola; a niece, Mrs. Frances Dentler of Grand River, also two grand-nephews, Joseph Dentler, of Newton and Robert Dentler of Villisca, Iowa. These loved ones mourn the passing of a dear one, who has been a factor for good training and honest living in their lives.
So, one by one our sturdy pioneers are passing away, only remembered by what they have done to blaze the way and make life better for generations that follow.
Services were held at the Watts Funeral home in Murray, Monday, June 20, 1955, with Rev. Lacey Thompson officiating. Burial was in Murray cemetery.
