F. M. Sowash Died Suddenly Tuesday Evening; Services To Be Held Friday

Monday one of Osceola’s highly respected citizens sat on the election board in the second ward, apparently in his usual health. Tuesday evening a sudden heart attack caused his death. The deceased is F. M. Sowash, for many years an employee of the C. B. and Q. railroad at this place.

Funeral services will be held from the Webster Funeral Home on Friday, March 29, at 2:30 p.m. They will be conducted by Rev. O. L. Byrns of the Presbyterian church. Interment will be made in Maple Hill cemetery.

Francis Marion, son of John B. and Emeline Sowash, was born August 25, 1867, near Winterset, Iowa. At the age of ten his parents moved to Patterson in Madison county, Iowa, and there he grew to manhood. About 1888 he with his parents took up their residence at Creston, Iowa. There he engaged in the employ of the C.B. & Q. railroad. This employment he followed for 38 years, when he was honorably retired.

On December 25, 1890, he was happily married to Miss Laura Doan of Patterson, Iowa. They first made their residence at Creston. In 1892 he was transferred to Lucas in the employment of the railroad, where they resided 13 years, and in 1905 they came to Osceola where he had charge of the Burlington pumping station for twenty years. For a short while he was employed at Biggsville, Illinois, where he was honorably retired by the Burlington on a pension.

He was a member of the Presbyterian church in this city and for many years was an active elder. He was a member of the Veterans Association of the C.B. & Q.

Surviving are the widow: two children, Lucille and Clifton of Osceola; one brother, Paul V. of Creston, and foster sister, Mrs. Roy Arnold of Valentine, Nebr.; three grandchildren, Mrs. James White and Mildred and Junior Sowash of Des Moines.
