Lorain Ann Hazen, youngest daughter of Rufus and Louisa Hazen, was born in Madison County, Iowa, May 30, 1868 and passed away at Osceola, Iowa, June 8, 1943 at the age of 75 years and 9 days.

Her early life was spent on a farm in Madison county, Iowa near Van Meter, moving with her parents to Lincoln township, Union county in 1893.

Early in life she was converted and united with the Methodist church.

On March 11, 1894 she was united in marriage to William W. Crittenden and to this union were born seven children, Mrs. Hazel Boyer, Harry, Ray and Roy Crittenden all of Thayer; Mrs. Madge Brand of Mt. Ayr and Wayne Crittenden of Afton.

In 1896 she and her husband moved to a farm in Pleasant township, which has been her home ever since, with the exception of the last four months which were spent at a nursing home in Osceola.

Mrs. Crittenden had been in failing health for the last several years being confined to her bed for the last 16 months.

She was preceded in death by her parents, all her brother and her only sister.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband and 7 children, 26 grandchildren, (one grandson, Harold Brand is serving overseas with the armed forces), and several nephews and nieces.

She has been a wonderful mother to her children following the example of her mother, Grandma Hazen who was one of the finest women that ever lived.

Services were conducted from the Hopeville Methodist church Thursday, June 10, with Rev. Everett Epperson officiating, and Cohen Funeral Home of Afton in charge. Burial was in Hopeville cemetery.
