MEASE, Robert D. "Bob", 74, a 19-year resident of San Marcos, California died at Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, California on Tuesday, August 22, 2006, following a courageous battle with prostate cancer.

Born on May 23, 1932, in Osceola, Iowa to the late Jay Leland and Elsie Pauline Mease, he graduated from Truro High School and Iowa State University where he received an AFROTC Commission. He taught Vocational Agriculture for one year in Scranton, Iowa prior to his active duty Air Force years, 1956-1981. He completed supply school, pilot training, Squadron Officer School, and Command and Staff College; served as a supply officer, a transport (124 and 141) pilot, an SOS Instructor, and a one-year tour in Vietnam. His most memorable military experience came in 1973, flying the support missions for President Nixon's trip to the Peoples Republic of China, and providing air transportation for the USAPRC exchange of Musk Ox and Giant Pandas.

He married Janet L. Heckard on Dec 21, 1955, in Des Moines, Iowa. After Air Force assignments in Wyoming, North Carolina, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, South Carolina, New Jersey, and Alabama, he retired as a Lt. Col. on May 31, 1981.

He is survived by Janet Mease, their daughters Sandy (Bill) Wade, Ft Worth, Texas; Susie (Jim) Dunham, Pike Road, Alabama; sons David (Blanca) Mease, Montgomery, Alabama; Larry Mease, Millbrook, Alabama; grandchildren Brian (Tara), Matthew, Patrick, and Ethan Wade; Melissa, Adam, and Daniel Mease; Andrew Dunham; great-grandson Dylan Wade. He is also survived by his wife Hazle; siblings, Lois Jean Query, Raleigh, NC; Paul (Mary) Mease, Calimesa, California; Cecil (Shirley) Mease, Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. Frances (Darrell) Bobzin, West Des Moines, Iowa; Irene (Steve) Clutter, Houston, Texas.; fourteen nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, September 30, at Cloverdale Christian Church, 960 Cloverdale Road, Montgomery, Alabama; Pastor, Tommy Morgan officiating.
