Amanda Ponx final rites held Monday

Last rites were held from the Slininger Chapel at 3:30 p.m. Monday for Amanda R. Ponx, 82, with the Rev. John A. Nye, minister of the First Methodist church of Cooper, in charge.

Wendell Wright sang “Beyond the Sunset” and “The Old Rugged Cross,” accompanied by Mrs. Curtil Wilson.

Casket bearers were Channing Ponx, Richard Ponx, William Nipps, Dwane Ponx, Wayne Sprague, and Stephen Molle.

Interment was in the Franklin Township cemetery.

Amanda Rosetta, daughter of Comer and Maggie McDole Phillips, was born April 27, 1882, in Lyon county, Kan., near Dunlop. She moved with her parents to Winterset, as a youngster where she attended school and lived until her marriage. She was united with the Christian church as a young girl.

On July 20, 1898, she was united in marriage to Gus A. Ponx at Des Moines. To this union five children were born: Albert A. Ponx of Cambridge; Jerome P. Ponx, Des Moines; Gus Ponx, Jr., Jefferson; Mrs. Fred (Gertrude) Spragg, Des Moines; and Mrs. Lee (Bernice) Oberkamper, Jefferson.

During their married life the couple lived in Des Moines and later on a farm near Granger, before moving to their farm home in Greene county in 1929. Mr. Ponx passed away Feb. 2, 1952. Mrs. Ponx has lived with her daughters for the last few years. She died at Greene County Hospital April 9, having reached the age of 82 years, 11 months and 12 days.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Ponx was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
