Resident of Clarke County For 42 Years; Died Tuesday After Long Illness
Services for J. H. See, for the past 42 years a resident of Clarke county, were held from the Miller Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon, October 10, at 2 o’clock. Rev. J. D. Smith of Des Moines officiated. Mr. See died Tuesday, October 8, after a long illness. He was 89 years old.
Music was furnished by Russell Manley and Tot Scott with Lela Barnard at the piano. Burial was in Maple Hill cemetery, with Lyle Foster, Harry Funston, Ben Miller, Ross Thrasher, Rolla Glenn and George Knowles as pallbearers.
John Harvey See, fourth child of John and Elizabeth Philpott See, was born near New London, Des Moines county, Iowa, August 9, 1856 and passed away at Osceola, October 8, 1945, at the age of 89 years, 1 month and 29 days.
At the age of 5 years he moved with his parents to Madison county, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage to Emma Maybelle Emerson, August 9, 1877 at Leon, Iowa.
To this union were born seven children, Mrs. Minnie E. Brewer, Osceola, Mrs. Laura E. Myers, deceased, Mrs. Ethel E. Collins of St. Louis, Mo., Ralph H. See of Moorehead, Minn., Ross E., Kenneth E., and Mrs. Louise S. Schmitt of Osceola.
As a young man, he engaged in farming and followed this work all his life, the past 42 years in Clarke county, Iowa. He was a believer in the Seventh Day Adventist Faith.
The wife preceded him in death July 20, 1934. He leaves to mourn his passing, six children, ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; one brother C. E. See of Bayard, Iowa; one half-brother Madison Brown of Sioux City, Iowa, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
