Roy Benjamin Phillips, son of William Barrett and Eva Lurena Gibson Phillips, was born May 31, 1892 at West Liberty, Iowa, and passed away at his home near Murray, Iowa, on August 15, 1959 at the age of 67 years, 2 months and 14 days.

When a young boy he moved with his parents to Madison county where he was united in marriage to Mabel Carder on February 15, 1922. Two years later they moved to Clarke county where he spent the remainder of his life.

To this union were born five children: Mrs. Norma Woods of Gales Ferry, Conn., Dale of Ogden, Iowa, Mrs. June Flaherty of Murray, Iowa, Max, deceased, and Wayne at home.

At an early age he united with the Church of Christ at Barney and later transferred his membership to Murray.

He was a veteran of World War I, having served most of his time in France. He was an active member of the American Legion and was also active in other community affairs.

He was preceded in death by one son, his parents, his sister and two brothers.

He was a loving husband and father, an obliging neighbor, and honored citizen and was always willing to help a friend in trouble.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, two daughters, nine grandchildren and three brothers, Vaughn of West Liberty, Iowa, George of Nichols, Iowa, and Donald of Chicago, Ill., and a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Monday at the Murray Church of Christ with Rev. Walter Williams officiating. Burial was in the Murray cemetery.
