Page 6, Columns 4 & 5Services for Carol Kirk, former Clarke county man, were held at Leon Thursday, October 9. He died of polio at the Veterans hospital in Des Moines, Monday, October 6.
Kirk lived on a farm four miles north of Decatur. He became ill on Friday night and was brought to Osceola the next morning where his illness was diagnosed as polio, and he was taken to the Veterans hospital.
Carol Rhea Kirk, son of White and Wilma Kirk, was born in Madison county near Truro, on April 2, 1927, and died at the age of 25 years, 7 months and 4 days, at Veterans hospital in Des Moines.
He was united in marriage Dec. 21, 1944, to Gerata McGauhey. To this union two children were born, Randy age 4 and Kathy age 2.
He accepted Christ as his Savior in his young manhood.
On April 19, 1945, he entered military service, his choice being the navy.
He was a member of the Masonic lodge at Decatur, Iowa.
In addition to his wife and children he is survived by his parents, two sisters, Mrs. Doris Griffin of Decatur and Mrs. Lois Barnett of Leon; two brothers-in-law; four nephews and one niece, and maternal grandmother, Mrs. Senia Jemison of Osceola.
