Ruby Pearl Nicholl was born January 3, 1901, near Winterset, Madison county, Iowa, died February 9, 1913, age 12 years, 1 month and 1 day. Death came from pneumonia. Her illness lasted only six days and all that human hands and medical skill could do was done for her. The most of her life was spent near Wick, Warren county, Iowa. This young, beautiful life and model character was so full of bright prospects as all youth should be.

Death coming so unexpectedly depriving a home of one of its chief joys, the community of a true friend, the church of a light, does indeed sadden our lives, but this precious character was based upon truth, she was ready.

Ruby had listened to the whispering of the still small voice heeded the warning and accepted the truth which makes free. The sweet life attested this a few weeks ago at the altar of the church. She surrendered to Jesus Christ. We know that now her hope is realized, her joy is full. Let us not sorrow as those do without hope. God rules the world; all is well. Ruby was dearly loved by her schoolmates and associates wherever she was. She was the idol of her parents, brothers and grandparents. The was admired by all that knew her. During December 1912 Ruby united with the Wesley Chapel M.E. church at Wick.

The parents, David and Alma Nicholl, two brothers, one sister, three grandparents, Mr. Thornburg and wife of Wick and Mrs. Margaret Nicholl of Indianola, two great grandparents, Mr. Greenfield and wife of Jamaica, Iowa, and other relatives and a host of friends mourn Ruby’s death. Her favorite songs were “No Not One,” and “There is Sunshine in My Soul,” which were sung at her funeral. Rev. F. V. Warner, her pastor conducted the funeral assisted by Rev. S. W. Lee. As a token of respect and love her relatives, Sunday school teacher and Sunday school, her school teacher and friends contributed beautiful wreathes of pink and white carnations. The body was laid to rest in the Wick cemetery.
